BIOSTAR TA890FXE

Conclusion:

This mobo seems to be out of place in this roundup. The reviewers were concerned about its snowballing power consumption under heavy operational loads, so they were forced to limit their CPU overclocking. It also has a number of BIOS issues, just like the ASRock board.

Overclocking:

The reviewers set the CPU voltage at 1.4 V, which is but 0.1 V over the default value, and overclocked the cpu to 3.9 GHz, most other boards in this test reached 4.1 GHz.

Benchmarks:

Cinebench 11.5, Fritz Chess Benchmark utility, x264 HD, 3D Mark Vantage, Far Cry 2, SuperPi, Resident Evil V, Power Consumption.

BIOSTAR TA890FXE

Conclusion:

If you want a low-cost approach to a high-end AMD chipset the TA890FXE will be your motherboard. This mainboard also has a bare set of overclocking features. Unfortunately it lacks USB3 and the SB850 southbridge misses one of its SATA 6Gb/s ports, which has been converted into an eSATA port on the I/O panel. Furthermore it's equipped with the AMD core unlocking technology.

Overclocking:

An AMD Phenom II X6 1090T with standard cooler was tested with BUS overclocking, a final stable bus of 260MHz was reached without raising the voltage.

Test Setup:

  • ram: 2x2GB Corsair XMS3-1600C9 DDR3
  • hdd: 74GB Western Digital Raptor WD 740
  • PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W PSU Review
